Many people waste their lives waiting for the perfect time to get started. They are waiting for some event to take place or some resource to come to them.
A person earing a minimum wage may be waiting to save up $50,000 to start a business. Saving up $50,000 may take them years and the opportunity to start a business may pass them by.
By the time they have saved up the amount of money the require, they may be too old and have less energy to start their own business. May be they will never get to saving the amount of money they require.
In my opinion the perfect time to get started is now, immediately. There is no point in waiting around for things to change, especially when you are stuck in a circle of negativity.
The Dream
My dream was to read over 100 personal development related books within a year and share what I learn online with others. This would enable me to pick up the required knowledge to start my journey towards a career related to personal development.
I would need to quit my current employment to enable me to read 100 books within a year. I work 12 hour long shifts as a corporate security officer, and there are not enough hours in a day for me to achieve this on a part-time basis.
For me to quit my current employment for a year, I would need to save up approximately $50,000 to enable me to meet my living expenses for 12 months. Saving up $50,000 would take me too long and my dream would be shattered!
I have made a decision to get started on a part-time basis. I have set a goal of reading 1,000 books related to personal development. I will be documenting my results on this newsletter.
There will be post related to all aspects of personal development and mind science on the newsletter. I don’t know how long it will take me to read 1,000 books, but I will keep on reading and writing post on this newsletter.
Some writers spend between a day to a week on writing a single post on substack. I don’t have the freedom to do this yet, as I have to write on the fly. I only have around 1 to 2 hours to write a post.
10,000 Subscribers
I have set a goal of getting to over 10,000 subscribers to enable me to monetize my content on substack to allow me to earn a sufficient monthly income, so that I can quit my current employment.
I will look at paid subscriptions once I get to over 1,000 subscribers. I will keep the subscription rate at $5 monthly. At this rate 1500 subscribers would earn me around $4,000 monthly after deductions and taxes to enable me to quit my employment as a corporate security officer.
I will be able to put more time into writing these posts. For now I will have to continue reading the books and churn out the posts rapidly.
Your Health
If you are serious about improving your health, you may want to cut out sugar from your diet completely.
There is no use saying that you will do it in the future, just do it immediately. If you are not going to do it, stop saying that you will do it.
If you want to do something, do it immediately. Stop waiting for the perfect time or someday in the future, as someday in the future will always remain in the future.
I made a decision to quit smoking in 2013 and have been a non smoker since then. I had been a smoker since my teenage years. I had tried to quit many times, but I was not really serious about it.
Back in 2013, I started thinking that this craving for cigarettes was controlling me. I had been denying that I had become addicted. I though that I could easily quit, but this was not the case.
In the summer of 2013, I squashed up my pack of cigarettes and threw it out of the bathroom window into the garden. The craving over took me and I went into the garden in the middle of the night to pick up the broken cigarettes.
I started thinking to myself “What the hell am I doing?” this addiction had transformed me into the equivalent of a tramp that goes around the streets collecting cigarette butts. This image impacted me emotionally… I was not going to let this addiction dictate my actions.
I picked up the broken cigarettes from the garden and flushed them down the toilet. I associated them with the sh*t that they were and got rid of them.
I made a promise to myself that I would never smoke again… I have not smoked since then, not even vapes! The power of a promise made to yourself is truly empowering.
This action of flushing the cigarettes down the toilet transformed my self-image. I associated myself with being a non smoker and I still find the habit of smoking disgusting.
The stench on the clothes, the cigarette breath, breathing difficulties and the damage to health and financial loss was not for me!
Dealing With Addictions
I will work on some articles to help people free themselves from addictions. The important thing is that they must truly desire to stop smoking, vaping, drinking, drugs, gambling… or whatever they are addicted to.
They will need to work on transforming their self-image and make a real promise to themselves that they want to quit the bad habits.
Someone of us have developed habits that we may not realize that affect us adversely. There are many people addicted to impulse buys and spending money on unnecessary things that keep them broke.
Many people spend a large amount of time on useless activities like watching dramas and TV shows. This time could be used more productively to bring their dreams into reality. There are many people addicted to social media, just flicking through the feed continuously, wasting many valuable hours.
We all must learn to value time, as it is an asset that is limited. You can earn more money, but you cannot make more time. It is limited, so you must use it wisely.
Thank you for sharing this. Time is limited and we do treat it in a different way than we should sometimes. But it's ok to be indulgent, some days, some weeks.
