I Have Started Reading Psycho-Cybernetics By Dr Maxwell Maltz
You cannot overtake your self-image
I had been doing everything possible to transform my life after the pandemic, but everything seemed to fail.
I made plans and took action daily, but the results were not as expected. I took a step back and started looking searching for the thing that was holding me back from achieving my goals.
After going through many personal development and self-help books, I came across “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Dr Maxwell Maltz.
After reading the blurb, I knew that it was my self-image that was holding me back from achieving my goals.
I ordered the book from Amazon and waited for it to arrive. Once it dropped through the letter box, I opened up the package, grabbed myself a cup of Raspberry & Pomegranate tea and started reading.
The Self-Image
Dr Maltz was a plastic surgeon and he witnessed the impact of self-image on the patients that he performed surgery on.
Some of the patients transformed their view of themselves immediately after surgery, whilst others still held onto the same view of themselves.
Altering the shape of the nose, lips, ears and removing scars gave a boost of confidence to many of the patients and it did nothing for some of the patients.
Dr Maltz came to the conclusion that the patients that experienced no change had a negative self-image programmed into their subconscious mind. No amount of surgery would be able to transform this self-image.
The so called “deformity” was more in the mind than physical. Dr Maltz started looking into ways of transforming the self-image. Some of the patients may not need any surgery and could get the results from a transformation of their self-image.
The Theater Of The Mind
The self-image can be transformed by reprograming the subconscious mind. You can program your subconscious mind by sending it positive images of the things that you desire.
It is more effective to create a mental movie of the things that you desire. You can increase the effect by making it more vivid and adding sounds and also experiencing the feeling associated with the mind movie scene. Dr Maltz coined the term “The Theater of The Mind” for this mental movie.
Sports stars use mental rehearsal to enhance their skills. A basket ball star can boost his shooting accuracy by playing a mental movie of him shooting hoops daily.
Mental rehearsal has become a well established practice and used widely by top sports starts and athletes.
The astronauts that landed on the moon in 1969 went through a lot of mental rehearsal to prepare them for the mission.
Mental rehearsal does not cost you any money and the benefits can be truly rewarding. You can use it to transform your self-image and get unstuck and get your life moving in the right direction again.
Transforming My Self-Image
I have started transforming my self-image using mental rehearsal. My self-image had been altered after a road traffic accident back in 2003.
I was living in depression from 2003 to 2008. I started moving in and out of depression from 2008 to 2013. I tried to transform my life from 2013 onwards, but kept on hitting road blocks.
I could not work out the reason behind my failures. I did everything within my ability to create the lifestyle that I desires, but it all failed.
I have now realized that I will not be able to create any success until I transform my self-image. I need to transform my self-image to one that resonates with the lifestyle that I want to create.
I have gone through a lot of unfortunate events in my life, but I have accepted that all that is in the past. I am will not let the past determine my future, I will take control of my destiny in this present time and create the future that I desire.
It is not easy to work at transforming your self-image when you are working 12 hour long shifts at a dead end job. When there is not sufficient money coming in to cover monthly living expenses.
I have accepted all this as my current reality, but it will not move into my future reality. I am working towards transforming my self-image and this current reality will not remain for much longer.
Every day, I find a quiet place and go into the “theater of my mind” and play a movie of the lifestyle that I desire. It does not cost me anything, and I feel much better once I come out of the theater, knowing that my self-image is being altered.
It’s An Ongoing Journey
My self-improvement journey is ongoing, there is no end point. I will continue to seek out new knowledge, apply it and share it with others.
This journey will gradually transform me into a better version of myself and also transform my lifestyle towards a better one.
The knowledge that I share may also enable others to improve themselves and their lifestyles. I cannot guarantee that it will make a positive impact on your life, as it will depend on how you treat this material.
If you don’t apply it, there will be no changes. Knowledge is only useful when it is applied and a positive result is achieved.
I will carry on reading “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Dr Maxwell Maltz and continue with the exercises outlined in the book.
My self-image should be transformed within 6 to 12 months. It took a while for the negative self-image to form and it will take sometime for it to be altered.
I will continue sharing the impact these visualization exercises are having in my life. There is a lot of reading to be done, as I have made a decision to read 1,000 books on transform my lifestyle.
I will not be able to apply all the material that I come across in all the books. Psycho-Cybernetics is one of the books that I will study closely and carry out the exercises outlined within it.
It is the second book that I have started reading, and will continue going back to it time and time again. There is a wealth of knowledge and practical guidance within the pages of the extraordinary book.
